Driver Training Athletics Mr, Robert Quarry HDlfDriver Training Athletics Mr. Barry Gross Driver Training HDI Athletics Mr. lerry Nicholson HDI Life Science Coordinating Reflexes Driving on the road today is a seri- ous and dangerous situation, so our Health and Driver Instruction De- partment attempts to improve af- fairs on the road by teaching stu- dents to use safe driving habits and to have a good attitude toward driving. Students learn to drive with the use of simulators and actual Mr. Vernon Ross HDI U.S. History Athletics experience on the road. During a visit from the California Highway Patrol, a group of officers demon- strated stopping distances of a car at various speeds. Students are also taught artificial recesuctation and fire prevention by the Torrance Fire Department. xff' Q in

Eng. as a second Language Special Education: Helping Them Help Themselves Visual Aids Help for those limited in their abil- ities as a result of physical or mental handicaps was found in the Special Education Department. ln spite of each of their particular hindrances, students attained the bounds of their abilities with aid from their in- structors. The students benefited a great deal from individualized in- struction. The program included ex- cursions to places such as Olvera Street, museums, and other places of attraction.

Mrs. ludy Byrd Mrs. Kathy Goble Miss Martha Dalton Something The Boys' and Girl's Physical Ed- ucation Department provided a varied program to allow students to learn recreational sports and to en- courage individual motor skills while developing positive social characteristics. Development of physical as well as mental alertness was considered a vital part of the physical fitness program, and both departments ful- filled this requirement. Mrs. Linda Hewitt Mr. Allen Everley for Everyone Included in the Boys' P.E. Depart- ment were competitive CIF sports such as tennis, basketball, track, football, wrestling, soccer and base- ball. Girls' P.E. had interscholastic sports such as volleyball, tennis, basket- ball, track, gymnastics, and soft- ball. Classes were offered accord- ing to students' preferences to Sophomores, juniors and Seniors on a four-quarter system. Mr. Robert Howard
