The students benefited a great deal from individualized in- struction. The program included ex- cursions to places such as Olvera Street, museums, and other places of attraction.

Go Hand-in-Hand ln lndustrial Arts courses, students were taught technical skills requir- ing the use of their hands. Training varied from woodshop to car me- chanics which enabled students to obtain the necessary experience in handling machines for various vo- cational trades. Besides working with machines, the Industrial Arts Department included drafting. Students found drafting to expand new horizons into the world of architecture and civil en- gineering. The technical arts class was a popular course for students aimed towards a vocation in archi- tecture. Students learn to drive with the use of simulators and actual Mr. Vernon Ross HDI U.S. History Athletics experience on the road. During a visit from the California Highway Patrol, a group of officers demon- strated stopping distances of a car at various speeds. Students are also taught artificial recesuctation and fire prevention by the Torrance Fire Department. xff' Q in
