This club works with forei n exchange students and American students a- broad. The members acquired much understanding of other customs and ways of life. The club had a pancake breakfast, potluck dinners, and a going away picnic.

Bottom Row: Mon- ica Hillier, Diana Nikkels, Marina Peters, jennifer Berry, Marlene Kim, Debra Nichols. kit Rick Meyers receives more than a penny for his thoughts. North High's speech and debate squad, under the direction of Mr. john D.Reynolds, participated in highly competitive tournaments with other schools in the South- ern California Debate Lea ue. Varsity speakers were matciwed with students who have proved to be the best in their chosen events. The young orators were judged up to six times in a tournament da by qualified college students. When students had earned enough points through competi- tion, they became members of the National Forensic Lea ue, and could earn diploma seai in this honorary society. Aside from strenuous competi- tions, other activities for the orators included a Christmas party, ICC carnival booths for raising funds, and an awards banquet. Here recognition was given to Saxons who made ex- ceptional gains in speech. Rick Meyers, an outstanding orator, received a 300 dollar Scholarship from the North Tor- rance Lion Club.

Although primarily concerned with promoting Asi- l an cultures, they were involved in numerous other activites l which included trips to Disneyland and japanese Village. l The funds for these trips were raised through the sale of I candy and fortune cookies.
