Due to the superb coaching ability of Mr. Barry Gross, the volleyball team had a fine winning season, pulling off some stunning upsets this year. The j.V. Coach was Mike ide. Frosh and Soph Look to Future With High Hopes This year's Freshmen and Sophomore basketball teams posted the best overall record of any of the North teams. Under the coaching eye of Barry Gross, the team was led to a second place finish in a really tough Bay League, with Freshman Dave Matson leading the team offensively with a 19.8 points per game average. Second offensively was Sophomore Richard lew with a 12.7 points per game average. Other outstanding players were Mike Haas, Bruce Miller, and Steve Trunkett. The Freshmen came into the wonderful world of High School basketball with high hopes, most of their hopes were fulfilled by placing high in some of the tougher tournaments ofghe year. Some of the Frosh stars were Riley Wilkerson, Mike Komada, Rich Miller, and Gordon Nakagawa. Coach Tierney was very pleased with the performance of the team. Saxon Wrestlers Take Second In the final two weeks of wrestling, North had convincingly won four tournaments, among which were the Five Coun- ties Tournament and the Edgewood Tournament. The most outstanding team accomplishment for the Saxons this year was winning the El Camino Tournament. This was a first in the history of North High. The North High Grapplers finished the regular season with second place, and a duel meet record of 7-0. 5 yu- V- - --vm,--Y Herb Kaichi works for the takedown. Outstanding single performers included: Mitchell Taguchi Q20-11 1st in league, Herb Kaichi C25-25 1st in league, loe Rodriguez C24-71 2nd in league, Ron Kaichi C25-4l 1st in league, Mark Lowerison C21-95 3rd in league, Roy Mori- moto l14-7l 2nd in league, Kevin Kamemoto C17-97 2nd in league, and Dan Dunifer, 2nd in league.
