With the Fisher- Spatzky tournament receiving much coverage this year. enthusiasm among the club ' s members increased tremendously. Aside from the weekly gatherings, the group also participated in the In- terscholastic Chess Tournament held on February 17th. Sponsor Mr. Wayne Bantau was greatly pleased with the enthusiasm and competi- tive spirit shown. Something ' s Fishy About This Club One of the newest clubs at North High, and the second group to be sponsored by Mr. Gerry Pendrick. was the Fishing Club. These sixty Saxons came together with the common desire of grabbing a hook, line, and sinker, finding his own fisherman ' s paradise in a local river, and enjoying one of the most rewarding and relaxing sports to- day. A chance to get away from the rush of the city, to get closer with Nature, and hopefully bring home a fine meal were among the goals of this club ' s members. The group hoped to participate in four to five fishing trips per year. During the Christmas holidays, 22 students and 8 teachers jour- neyed to Lake Anaheim. Everyone enjoyed the satisfaction and thrill of catching at least one trout, with the exception of sponsor Mr. G. Pendrick. ii ft r) Fishing Club: ROW 1-Art Vandermaten. Gail Takahashi, Sandy Mills. I Building for tlie Future The purpose of the Industrial Arts club was to offer an opportunity for the development of construc- tive leisure activities. Belonging to the club also satisfied the creative desires of its members, regardless of their professional interests. Part of each meeting time, after the ordinary business was com- pleted, was devoted to working on do-it-yourself projects. Everyone enjoyed making useful articles from a few tools and raw materi- als. Field trips were arranged for the club to visit industries such as the American Standard plant in Tor- rance. Watch your fingers!! How do you stop this crazy thing? says John Metzler. At least one of the Industrial Art students is VKorking, or is he?
