Scholarship Society Symbolizes North ' s Scholarship Society is a branch of the state- wide California Scholastic Federation. Members must come up to statewide requirements, involving both grades and citizenship marks. Those who are members for at least four semesters receive a gold tassel at graduation. In order to raise money for activities during the year, the club sponsored a car wash, a pancake breakfast ticket sale, a booth at the I.C.C. carnival, and a tootsie pop sale. The club holds the record for that sale, having rid themselves of 9000 suckers. Scholarship Society is the only club on campus that gets it ' s members out of class for activities. As a Christmas activity, the week before vacation the club visited an art museum, and Farmers Market. Activities planned for later in the year were a picnic, a beach party, a movie, and possibly a two night stay at a lodge in Crestline. I l» V. Annie Katata at the L.A. Art Museum. A Masterpiece of Creative Talents Amid the everyday hassles of writing, drawirig, printing, and general organizing, there was but one goal on the minds of all staff members — to assemble various crea- tive talents into North High ' s literary masterpiece Xanadu. This year, the formation of the Xanadu class helped in the magazine ' s production by eliminating all the little things which usually slowed down the staff. Sponsored by Mrs. Carole Shakely, the club provided an outlet for the creative expressions of the North High students. Not only did the magazine accept poetry and short stories, but also contributions of songs and car- toons. It also served as an exhibit of various artistic talents. Besides the production and sale of Xanadu, the staff engaged in many field trips. These included excursions to the parks for poetry sessions, visits to USC English classes, and sessions in Buddhism and yoga. Xanadu Staff-ROW 1-Michele Robinson, Dons Hensel.
