NOT SHOWN: Risa Lozer ■» ' V Latin Club Attends Junior Classical League Convention Although their club wasn ' t the largest, nor did they ven- ture into foreign lands for first-hand experiences, the Latin Club did host a few exciting activities which it ' s members were proud of. The new school year began with one of the most festive events in Roman life— the Sat- urnalia. Held on Dec. 13th. this feast of Saturn was one of the greatest of all Roman holidays. In ancient Rome, slaves were set free and given presents, schools were let out. and gambling was legal for everyone. On March 9th and 10th. several Latin Saxons attended the Junior Clas- sical League convention in San Jose. Calif. Here they participated in various academic and athletic competi- tions, besides dining in all the pomp and splendor of old Roman days. Later in the month, they held a banquet celebrating a historical event. Other activities included a celebration of the legendary founding of Rome and a picnic with roast pig. Club members continued their fun into the summer and participated m the national JCL Convention at Claremont College in August. Sponsor Mrs. Ruby Workman is pleased that the activities enabled them to meet Latin students from other schools . A Latin test is not the easiest thing on earth! 81
