Paul Saito. Jack Peters. Coach Schmitz. ROW 3-Gerald Shodall, Kevin Klett. Tom Futterer. John Mc Ewen. Mark Burgan. The Frosh-Soph Baseball team opened the season with impressive play. Under the direction of Coach Steve Schmitz. the team consisted of mostly freshmen, with only three sophomores. They looked forward to a good chance of taking the Bay League title. Outstanding in- dividuals like Tom Futter. Vic Barbosa. Jerry Shodall held the team together. On to another score. Saxons punch out one more hit. 61

Bob Gallarde, John Greteman, Ron Blake, Corky Wyrick, Brian Scott, ROW 2: Dave Lubben, Dan Harris, Mark Harmon, Larry Kuhn, Randy Angel, Brian Burch, Coach Bill Cunerty, ROW 3; Greg Porter, Ron Tomich, Tim O ' Neill, Brian Siderits, The Junior Varsity Baseball team was off to a great start in the 1973 Season. After successfully sweeping the Bay League as a Frosh-Soph team, they hoped to repeat the performance this year. The first tournament of the year for the J.V. ' S was at El Segundo High School. They had high hopes of taking first place. The team also intended to enter the Penninsuala Tournament. The Junior Varsity team was led by Coach William Cunerty. The Saxon offense was powerful to the point of being unstoppable, scoring an average of five runs in each game. The defense too proved formidable, allowing few runs to their opponents. Important con- tributions to the team were made by Ron Blake, Mark Toma, Scot Plye, and Dave Lubben. Larry Kuhn pitches a fast one. Coach Cunerty discusses a new strategy. Bob Galardo likes what he sees. 60

Victor Matsunaga, Dale Ledbetter, Rick Yamasaki. ROW 5; Tom Simko, Brad Wolf, Jim Kronberger, Earl Hon, Jim Alger. The 1973 North Track Team started its season with big wins over Haw- thorne, and Excelsior. Track Runs to Victory .A k Outstanding varsity tracksters were Barrie Williams in the mile, Don Means at the hurdles, and long jumper Pat Powers. Scott Newman, in the pole vault, and high jumper Bob Burk also contributed to the varsity scores. Out- standing sophomores were Terry Au- try in the 100 yds, and Shale Parker in the mile. Mike Blau did well in the sophomore high jump. Long jumper Ron Matoba, and 132 yd, runner Tony Guerra were exception- ally good freshmen. The track team was coached by Don Kalmar and Don Kasten.
