Parents + Teachers - Action Parents + Teachers = Action ' — a theme which truly fitted the NHS PTA. Under the leadership of Presi- dent Mrs. Paul Hughes, the PTA ' s 1209 members strove to promote the welfare of their children and keep open communication between the home and school. Among the many activities spon- sored throughout the year were the annual Open House and a Freshmen Mothers ' Tea. PTA also sponsored the Senior After-Grad Party, held on June 13th. Meetings with faculty members were held often to discuss NHS courses and new programs. Mr. Lifton addresses the P.T.A. Mrs. Hashimoto takes notes as the ladles look on. PTA: SEATED Carmela Rinaldi. As during every year, the Board strives to establish strong communications with the stu- dents that are their responsibility and give them a chance to let their views be heard. Thus, they continued on with the student-board member meetings, in which students from North, South, West and Torrance High Schools met once a month with district administrators to discuss various problems within these campuses and possibly find solutions to them. This year, Dr. Lloyd Jones served his second term as Superintendent of Tor- rance Schools. Our Area Administrator was Dr. W. Buettgenbach. Dr. W. Buettgenbach. Helping Students Mr. James H. Blue Baylor Univ. MA Vocational Counselor Mr. Edwin Brown Sophomore Counselor Yes I ' m sure he ' s a good boy North High ' s counselors have always looked upon their role as a positive aspect in the lives of students. They ' ve felt that students need a place to go for infor- mation, a listening ear, or just to get away from the hectic class routine. Among their many jobs were included to act as a line of communication between school and family, serve as a resource to curriculum, college and career, and to provide a positive atmosphere under which students could express themselves candidly without fear of punishment. One very special change this year was the placing of class sponsorship on inter- ested faculty members instead of coun- selors. This enabled counselors to devote more time and effort toward helping their students. mt And next time don ' t be truant! Miss Kay Curry Gal State L.B. MA Junior Counselor Mr. Daniel Falocon U.C.L.A.
