Communication and Education Are Their Goals Dr. Lloyd Jones, Superintendent Approving various educational pro- grams submitted from schools within the Torrance Unified School District is but one of many jobs of the Torrance Board of Education. As during every year, the Board strives to establish strong communications with the stu- dents that are their responsibility and give them a chance to let their views be heard. Thus, they continued on with the student-board member meetings, in which students from North, South, West and Torrance High Schools met once a month with district administrators to discuss various problems within these campuses and possibly find solutions to them. This year, Dr. Lloyd Jones served his second term as Superintendent of Tor- rance Schools. Our Area Administrator was Dr. W. Buettgenbach. Dr. W. Buettgenbach. Serv. 1973 Emphasis Placed on Involvement Involvement and responsibility for all students ' is our motto , explained Mrs. Melvina Kovinick, Assistant Principal in charge of Pupil Personnel. This year she helped in counseling, guidance, attendance, discipline, and health. She also supervised and evaluated several faculty departments. Mr. John Nushy, in charge of In- structional Services, was kept busy with the Western Assoc, of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Working with the faculty, he strove to improve the curriculum and develop more interesting courses. As Assistant Principal in charge of Business Services, Mr. James Krembas ' mam goal this year concerned improving NHS ' s appearance, especially the quad and cafeteria. Parents + Teachers - Action Parents + Teachers = Action ' — a theme which truly fitted the NHS PTA. Under the leadership of Presi- dent Mrs. Paul Hughes, the PTA ' s 1209 members strove to promote the welfare of their children and keep open communication between the home and school. Among the many activities spon- sored throughout the year were the annual Open House and a Freshmen Mothers ' Tea. PTA also sponsored the Senior After-Grad Party, held on June 13th. Meetings with faculty members were held often to discuss NHS courses and new programs. Mr. Lifton addresses the P.T.A. Mrs. Hashimoto takes notes as the ladles look on. PTA: SEATED Carmela Rinaldi.
