Leonard Lifton NHS Students Are His Concern Mr. Leonard Lifton ' s third year as principal of North High School saw a few new ideas put forth on campus. Probably one of the first projects undertaken was that concerning improvement in NHS ' s appearance. This year the campus was painted in school colors — blue and white — and splashed with cheerful tints inside the rooms. The quad area was next in line with plans to add grass Mr. Lifton beams with happiness. and more foliage. Developments in the curriculum began with the introduction of stu- dent self-scheduling for each se- mester. Not only did this procedure eliminate most of the class pro- gramming hassles, but it also served as an orientation to college regis- tration. Aside from this, an explora- tory work program was extended to Principal ' s secretary: Mrs. Francene Smith. the business, home economics, and industrial arts departments. Among the future projects for NHS in consideration are a variable credit program, where students may receive less than 5 units for a semester ' s work, and an experi- mental mini course instruction designed for personal enrichment. 3»r- With glasses in hand, Mr, Lifton begins the day.
