The varsity eleven did comparatively well in their first year as members of the tough Bay League. Despite the looks of their one win-six loss-one tie record, the Saxon gridders constantly kept their opponents wor- ried with a hard-hitting defense and a speedy offense. Strangely enough, Coach Bob Shoup's gridders seemed to play their best games against the two top teams, Hawthorne and Santa Monica, ln their game with the leagues second place team, Santa Monica, the Saxons held Samohi to their lowest score of the year except for their final game with the league champs, Hawthorne. The Saxons held the Bay League Champion Haw- thorne.Cougars to a mere 6 points for the first half of their mid-season contest before finally losing in the final quarter 15 to 6.
