JCQQQ gpwnwi rw, The T957 Saxon gridiron warrior displayed a youthful set of muscles in his third year of Varsity competition. Lack- ing in both speed and experience, a valiant Saxon crew nevertheless showed great spirit and desire in compiling a 2-6 season record and provided many Thrilling moments for Their loyal fans. Frequently outmanned, but never out- fought, North High emerged as a school to be reckoned with in future football wars. Coached by Bob Shoup and Ed Levy and sporting a new Split T offense, the Blue and White racked up a number of notable firsts. Highlight of the season was a 6-O victory over Redondo Beach High School that snapped an T8 game losing streak. An impressive T9-7 win over Culver City enabled the Saxons to climb out of the Pioneer League cellar. Almost all the players had to learn new positions and there were many outstanding performers. Ernie Thomsen Another first at North High School, Ernie Thomsen made All Pioneer League, First String. the key role of quarterback very admirably. Ernie Thomsen's slashing running, kicking, and tackling were big factors in the team's success. Clark Sandberg, Stan Fittinger, Ron Haws, Bob Morgan, and John Swortfiguer bulwarked the offensive line. Chuck Webb and Dennis Berry showed great promise as Junior ends. George Foutts, Steve Harper, John Bowman, and Ed Jaureaui spearheaded the defense and Gene Caton and Gil Garnica handled the halfback duties. V .
