The POLAR BEAR J}| |j Orchestra Mr. Palmer D. Lowry has been director of the Or- chestra and Band for the last eight years. May he left North High for the armed forces. During this period, Mr. Lowry has worked with the marching band, having arranged the very attractive formations that have been presented at many public performances. The POLAR BEAR JUNE, 1943 A Cappella Choir The A Cappella Choir consisting of about 50 voices has been kept quite busy this semester. At the begin ' ning of the semester they sang for a forum at the Shrine Auditorium. May 8 the combined choruses of North and East High sang over the radio for National Music Week. The program was over a nation-wide hook-up. June 6 they will sing for baccalaureate services and June 9 for commencement exercises at Roosevelt High School. Miss Ruth Rickards, director of the Choir, is versatile in her musical talent as she not only directs the vocal work and often accompanies these groups, but has re ' cently taken over direction of the Band and Orchestra.
