The heavy North for- ward wall broke consistently through the Railsplitters line to throw the Lincoln backs for huge losses. The next game they won from Valley Junction by a score of 34-0. In this game they turned in the best performance of the season. The Norse line stood out both on defense and offense. Tangling with East in the sec- ond city series tilt. the reserves managed to vanquish the East Siders in a hard fought contest. 12-0. Traveling to Ames for their next game the Cubs lost 13-0. The game was played in a drizzling rain and the team failed to play up to their usual standard. The referees whistle kept the seconds from winning the Junior City Title when the Roughriders tied them. In the final game of the season the reserves played the Ames sec- onds but again were beaten 6-0. iii COACH LYNAM. While the backiield was bolstered by the excellent playing of such backs as Peterson, Francisco. Hall and Johnson, it was the line that was outstanding for the Cubs. The average weight of this forward wall was 156 pounds. The line was composed of Morris and Kirstein at ends Dick Peck and Bob Peck at the tackles Kramer and Gooch at the guard posts and Maine at the center position. Third Team Wrrrs Two Tres Three Norths football mentors tried something new this ear by offer ing a third squad to the football candidates Billy Sherman was coach of this squad that went through the season playing five games and losing none. Roosevelt scrubs were the first opponents of the C team. It was a hard fought contest in which both teams were held scoreless. In the second game with the Rough- riders. North really showed power 'ind the final gun found them on the long end of 13-6. In another city series tussle the third team tied the East High sec- ond aggregation in a dull uninter- esting game 0-0. The last series fray found the squad playing Lincoln on the lat- ters field. This game was tough but North won, as they deserved to do. by a 7-0 score. To close the season the Road- side Settlement was engaged in battle. This game, as did the one with East. ended in a dead- lock, 0-0. As the scores indicated Billy turned out a successful team and next vear we hope to find them playing on the first string. The brace of losses that the Pink 'ind Green experienced were not without honor. since their conquerors were two of the most formidable elevens in the state. In the initi-11 start of the sea- son the Polar Bears played to a scoreless tie with the Valley Junc- tion Tigers. and although they were repeatedly in the shadow' of their opponents' goal posts they failed to score. The second tilt was decided in the Pink and Greens favor when they vanquished the Grinnell elev- en 6-0. Lincoln was the first victim of Norths ravaging march to grid supremacy of the city. The Rail- JOHNNY .IUHNFUN t' lx. splitters were defeated 8-0. North sutTered its first setback of the season when they fell before the powerful rush of the Fort Dodge aggregation by a 13-0 score. In winding up the schedule the Northmen. by Herculean efforts. came from behind to capture the tiral fray of the year by besting the Ottumwa squad in a steady downpour on the latter's field. When the final gun sounded. pro- claiming the end of the game and also the end of the season. North was on the long terminal of the scoring. Five Norse gridders landed places on the Tribune's All-City team. They were Robert Earl. Don Malum. Don Emery. Charles Ore- baugh. and Gerald Davey.
