MJD! Coach Sam Barton's JV's finished in third place in the final South Yosemite League standings with a 6-4 mark. Bakers- field High and East High were the only teams able to defeat the JV's in league play. Both of the North-EB games could have been reversed. Bakersfield High finished with an un- blemished mark for first place. Gary Hudson topped the team in scoring, followed by Dave Strong. EB The stars finished in third place in the final SYL Arvgn standings this year with a 5-5 mark. lt was the Delano highest finish for Coach Tom Bailey's squad since entering the loop. Vern Burke, North's great all-round athlete, won the league scoring title with T87 points. lt was the first time a NH player had won the coveted crown, Burke, along with EB's Bill Benton, was selected as a unanimous all-league choice. This year's Comets basketball team shared the B Class title for the first time in North High's history. Their final league record was 9-1. Co-champion Bakersfield High handed them their only loss, 34-32 on a last-second basket. For the season the Comets were 18-1. Sharpshooting center, Guy Rounsa- ville, who finished out the season with the varsity, paced the Comets in scoring. For the year he tallied 249 points, a 12.9 game average. In league play he scored 139 points. Jim Maberry, Jim Zimmermann, and Carl Fisher, all seniors, were highly valuable team members. Mr. Max Evans was coach of the hard working Comets.
