IN MEMORY OF Matthew Michael MeTeer Brusic May 3, 1970 - August 26, 1986 Matt was someone who cared for and al- most felt responsible for everyone’s emotions. He was testing different lifestyles and atti- tudes. Fantasy and fantasy games were im- portant to him. He liked role playing. ECA was his most constructive dedication. He was thankful for the opportunity to learn about the ECA program, and was also thankful that he was able to go. He also loved our school drama clubs. He was set apart from everyone else, but by no means an outcast. He was the most interesting person to see in the halls. He was the kid in the “tie-dyes.” He was con- cerned by other people’s feelings. It was great to walk with him in the halls and see him acknowledge others’ stares at his unusual clothing habits. “I have living memory of him in my hand—his broken pencil tip.” JK “The last time I saw him he gave me a necklace, and said, ‘You deserve this’.” He had marvelous color sense—he was al- ways making necklaces and bracelets out of embroidery thread, he kept finding new pat- terns and methods with which to make these “string things.” We all played with Matt’s orange frisbee during our free periods. This frisbee never seemed to be far from him. “We threw the frisbee between all of the buses on the last day of school, and caused quite a commotion.” Matt was happy to be out of school after our sophomore year, but was already missing ECA by the first few days away from it. He loved to build things, like the sedan chair he built for Latin class. He enjoyed painting colors onto different objects. I remember his “No Nukes” tee-shirt. He didn’t talk much about peace, he felt that all the important things about peace had already been said, but 7- j 05 he did feel that peace was an important goal. He drew peace signs all over. “He showed me his Eastern religion books—the yin and the yang—and other things like that.” “I remember him reading his Taro cards.” He went to Yosemite with two new friends during his last summer. He stayed there, meeting people. He was always giving “help- ful” advice. He walked everywhere. He loved being in the chorus in ninth grade—and was always out of tune. He was a tease. He had fun, a light touch. He had a neat sense of humor—and would find new terms for a word. He had fun, a strong grasp of human- ity. He loved his music and the rhythm and dancing. Matt knew how life worked. “Everyday I have a reminder of Matt.” “The first day of summer will always re- mind me of him. The first day of his last summer we watched the sunrise together— even though we had to cut down a tree to make the view perfect. Matt wanted the per- fect experience.” Scott McDonald Desmond Root Chris Ayers Lucy Brusic Peter Heidmann Jason Kaiser
