The charter members of the North East Chapter, who were elected by the faculty council, were inducted into the society on October 15, 1958. The 12 charter members were Clifford Armour, John Lipsey, Elsa Latomaa, Kay Preston, Joyce Mil- ler, Linda Ashbridge, Beverly Phillips, Loretta Pickell, Mary Lou Huston, Elaine Puro, Helen Kallio, and Ruth Beldin, The charter sponsor was Mrs, Mary Jane Fogg. Since their induction these twelve members plus the six who were inducted on January 15, 1959, have been carrying on service projects for the school, Service, though, is only one side of the picture, They have to have good scholarship, a 4.00 average or better at all times, a good clean character, and be a leader of their class, club, or other group, The Student Council gave birth to the idea of an Honor Society about two years ago, At that time they appointed Ann MRS, MARY JANE FOGG Roush, class of '58, and Clifford Armour to draw up a consti- tution for this chapter. After many toiling hours the constitu- tion was completed and mailed to the executive secretary in Washington, D, C, lt was accepted and the charter granted. Even though the Honor Society is a new organization, it has taken its place among the cherished things in N. E.H.S. The Honor Society will be a long and cherished organization and an honor and asset to our school, "'?f"' - P41 ' ,rf -1 . nf WQA4 ' V 4 J qi A ,za I N, I 2 Q sf Q1 'li 'W' ' -we 1 Q As 1 1' 6 ' I 32 1, 9 v ye 5,5 ,. nf L 12 a. Volleyball Indianettes Retire Trophyg Cain, Third Championship Our lndianettes had a very successful volleyball season this year with only two losses for the Varsity. The girls scalped the other teams for the Cecil County Championship, thus retiring the trophy. The Junior Varsity lost only three games, Miss Breuninger says there are many prospects and they have plenty of drive and spirit, Good sportsmanship and friendliness toward other teams and among them- selves helped to bring our girls' volleyball team to such a glorious reign. Next year's varsity squad will miss the good set-ups by Beverly Phillips, the high point serving of Kay Preston, the hard spikes put down by Captain Frannie Raine, and the very consistent playing of Charlotte Reynolds, but with teamwork and good sportsmanship, future teams should continue to bring honor to North East High School, MISS BREUNINGER, Coach WE OPPONENTS 26 Rising Sun 53 Perryville 47 Bohemia Manor 32 Elkton 36 Rising Sun 26 Perryville 38 Bohemia Manor 35 Elkton THEY 31 23 31 27 16 29 20 28 MR. The success of being on top was hampered by count- less injuries taken by the squad during practice and during hard-fought games. Among these injuries were broken legs and fractured knees and ankles, North East defeated Rising Sun High School this year for the first time in two years in a game played 55 minutes over- time on North East's field, The soccer squad will lose eight seniors this year, but there are many able-bodied players to take the place of these seniors, Cecil County brought a new rule into the schools this year: The first place school will go to the state play-offs. North East had high hopes up to the very last game to go to the play-offs, but was defeated by Bohemia Manor, 5 ? s wf 1 Inclianettes A M ' er I H .,...-,,,.. ,..,, if 1 , A www , uf - Vg- L gp u 4wQ5 Q? cr l 5 ' - 'A ,Q 8 sf' xg, 7 i x 9 M 1 ' x ' Kl" , '11 ,M x y fit, 5 . jx W.
