Norman Iirunsdule Governor of North Dakota t 7%.e4.4 zye fattt aui tyoveiaar Since this word of greeting is the last one I am privileged to make to the students and faculty of Wahpcton Science through the columns of the Agawasic. I can appreciate the position of the staff responsible for the publication of the annual. Theirs is also a last official act for the year, or very likely for their entire school enrollment of several years. The 1056 Agawasic very appropriately is dedicated to Mr. F. H. McMahon, Director of the Junior College Department for many years and who is retiring after forty-three years of devoted service to the State School of Science. His great work in an active capacity in education is over, but the effect of his advice, counsel and teaching will constantly increase as long as graduates and former students of the School of Science who attended school under him arc active. Because North Dakota is on the verge of increased development of its natural resources of water, soil and minerals, including petroleum, trained skilled workers will be in greater demand than ever before. In addition, those who have completed advanced courses toward a college degree will find their opportunities for success or employment are greatly increased. Just as we are concerned about the conservation and best use of our natural resources, we can't overlook the conservation, which includes education and training, of our greatest resources our young girls and boys. They will hasten the development of our state because they have been educated and trained. VVahpeton Science has through its graduates assisted materially in the past in the progress made in our state. In the future it will do so in greater degree. My sincere good wishes to the class of 1956 at Wahpeton Science for a happy and successful future. Also, greetings and good wishes to its faculty and students, and on this occasion particularly to Mr. F. H. McMahon. Sincerely yours, NORMAN BRUNSDALE Governor il

Westbee is president of the board, Mrs. Mildred B. Johnson, vice president and Dr. A. F. Arnason, commissioner. In 1938 an amendment to the constitution of North Dakota created this board and vested in it the power to govern the state institutions of higher learning. That they have a big job, no one can deny, in this day of educational change. The census reports tell us that enrollment figures will skyrocket to unheard of proportions. In no small way we look to this board to find answers to some of our problems. rr: 9
