Her courage and unyielding faith throughout her ill- ness gives us a standard to which we all can aspire. To the memory of JOHNNIE CRAWFORD, who has provided this inspiration, we dedicate Volume V of the Panorama. THE LEGEND OF THE WARRIORS OF THE Five summers past, our great Longhouse was build in a clearing under the bountiful sky. In this symbol of Wisdom, Learning, and Youth, gather sons and daughters for guidance against the Evil Spirits, and guidance into the Paths of Right. Here the never ceasing "Legend of the Warriors" is formed. The Legend is the story of the Great Adventures of the sons and daughters, of wise prophets and chieftains, of fellow braves and squaws, of pow wows and contests, of the days until new hunting grounds are sought. Soon he is quickly caught up in the whirl- pool of activities. He works hard to establish himself and manage to outwit the Evil Spirits. The first moons are glorious as he prepares to climb the rungs of the ladder leading to his departure from the tribe into new hunting grounds. He looks up to the older members of the Longhouse and feels that being a Senior Brave is far away. He doesn't realize that the ladder is very short. Soon he will be that Senior Brave who must be prepared to survive in the unfamiliar hunt- ing grounds. iiiiiiiiiifff? -Q if fsef f :I':" ': :if53555?5f525i5iiQEi.,.1... The days pass quickly as the brave spends many hours be- fore the campfire and in consultation with his elders to overcome the Bad Spirits. More and more he be- comes a part of the Legend, its pow wows and contests for both mind and body. Through mistakes as well as correct actions, he benefits. The goal can be reached by efforts and desires. As the second year is completed, the brave looks for- ward to becoming a more important warrior. Each year holds its trials and triumphs and so does this one. More and more the brave realizes that the surest way not to fail is determination to suc- ceed. He also begins to see what is to come in the moons after he leaves the Longhouse. During the year he feasts, sings, dances, and spends many, many hours before the campfire. The tempo of activities and work increases as the moons pass. The tribal dance for the oldest braves and maidens is held near the end of the year and is a night not to be forgotten. As the year passes, he will soon be the oldest, and he hopes the wisest, in the Longhouse. 1.sf:5:2:a25f3i5i22es-wi. ff:'.'1',.zisilif2521212f21E1E121112f22I11111f'1- - I ax "' vw .-,-m.-.-.'.'. . . .-nav. .',-.ss-. .. It is filled and running over with activity. Many hours are spent before the campfire, in many pow wows and contests, and in new responsibilities. Among the many activities is a glorious tribal dance held in the month of December. Here the most oustand- ing maidens and braves are honored. This and many other tribal dances are an important part of the Legend. The year also brings the realization of departure from the Longhouse and embarkation upon a new adventure. The adventure looked forward to with anticipation and uncertainty but filled with hope. Our story at the Longhouse of Learning comes to an end. Triumphant chants at the end of the strife fade into sad strains of farewell. E55?f5E5f5f5f' 37 xg LINDA ALLEN CAROL ANGLIN GARY ARNOLD ROBERT BAILEY MARY BARRON JIM BEARDEN. The Longhouse is proud as the warriors rake the field to uphold honor and name, or when they excel in cluh activities. The benefits of sports mold braves and maidens in- to respected members of the tribe and make them worthy of recognition not only from their own tribe but from tribes throughout the land. The nineteen different clubs also serve to mold the personality of members of the Longhouse. They give a chance for leadership and successful following. Mem- bers of the Longhouse have gone to the state level and one to the national level in competition. sv va an ' 'ns'3'.'.- ssv.a.m.-ve .'Y?'!'.'.-.-. ACT ION! 1 75 FOOTBALL WARRIORS W CO-C COACHES The North Cobb Warriors began the 1962-63 football season by dropping a 20-0 decision to Sprayberry. The following weekend N.C. was host to Dallas and was victorious 27-13. Lovett then stunted the Warriors 7-6 in a hard-fought battle. Minus both co-captains N.C. traveled to Pepperell, where they were upset 12-0. The following weekend N.C. rolled over highly rated Cassville 33-0. The Warriors, determined to prove themselves worthy, played top-ranked Carrollton to a 6-6 tie. N.C. continued its winning streak the following week by scalping Cherokee 19-13. N.C. dropped a hard fought contest to the Cartersville eleven 13-7. The last two games were taken in style by the Warriors.
