There was a pie-in- the-face event in which the high- est bidder got to throw a pie at his favorite member of the faculty staff, or the student body. There was also a car bash designed for one to vent one's frustrations against a faculty member with no appreciable harm to that member. There was also a soccer game, which we won, and a homecoming dance with music provided by the band, Crosswinds. Fall Festival was an enjoyable time for all. Another pie is thrown and john Tobinski soon finds it's nothing to laugh at . . . Several students take out their pe-nt up anxieties on a poor de- fenseless car. . . Instead of everyone going to the gym to hear a lecture once a week, there were a few required meetings and the other requirements were left up to the individual student to meet. One got credit for a wide variety of activities. Sports, religious activities, lectures, concerts, and plays all yielded a different colored slip of paper that one signed and turned into the poor, harried convocations work- ers. As with any new system, there were flaws. There were criticisms, both helpful and worthless. The sys- tem did last out the year. S8 'A CONVOCATIGNS lu, .' iw' X x f-X :C - but i . i ,i, 5 Q. The audiences atten- tion was focused on the major theme of love-madness. A large tree trunk with hang- ing vines set the scene. This served as Duke Theseus' court and as the forest nearby. These vines bind the lovers up ascenring the entanglement of their love. Costumes for the show suggested sleep apparel to rein- force the image that all the nights attidents have been but a dream. S 1 . ,K emi W 1 . - , I K i ,.- LI ACTS The One Acts are looked forward to each year because they give the theatre students a chance to try their hand at di- recting. They find out it is not as easy as it looks, but they hang in there and produce an enjoyable evenings entertainment for the rest of the student body. This year the One Acts that were presented were: l Bear by Anton Chekov and -Q Another Night by Susie Williams. Mary Milton directed E lkg which starred Steve Bryant, Shelia Whitehurst, and Philip Wood. Susie Wil- liams, directed her own play,-Q Another Night, which featured Ed Cooke, Steve Walker, james Clemons, Laura McMil- lian, and Clyde Cash. 'Night Must by Emlyn Wlilliams is .1 murder mystery, lt is also the story of Dans, the leading character. slow disinteg- ration at the hands of his own lust for blood. It is ti good thriller and therefore must be experienced to be enioyed. xY'lt'SlL'YdI1 College Theatre provided this experience during january, A F IDDLER ical that does not use pretty sce- nery or costumes. It is a story about life, its pain and its joy. Wesleyan's production of the musical was under the direction of Donald Williams. It was his first and last production. The show was a smashing success, playing to a packed house every night. It was a fine way to round out the 1977-78 season at Wes- leyan, THE RGOF Z 1 fa A fr WM ,717 Y.. Y . L' 4+ " v K . Y . ful . ' 5 I-91 -l There is a time for everything and the time has come to end this book. A lot of time and effort has gone into this annual. I hope a few people will appreciate it. This year we have color pictures in the opening section and throughout the book we have pictures that you will not remember from last year's book. I have made several mistakes and have learned a lot from them, but then I have never been an editor before. It has been an experience, sometimes a trying and exasperating one, but an unforgettable one nonetheless. There are several people I would like to thank for their help and support. I would like to thank Bertie for being so helpful and so willing to go beyond the call of duty. joe Allegood, without whom we would never have gotten past layout number one, deserves my undying gratitude. I would like to thank Clyde for designing our cover. I would also like to thank johnny for the majority of the pictures and Vickie for helping him and me. Thanks also go to Keith Barnes and Ben Casey for the pictures they contributed. I would especially like to thank Nancy and Amy, who knew less than I did about putting an annual together, but volunteered to help me anyway. Their moral support and work were a great help. They were always there saying, 'Everything will be okay," or 'LIS there anything I can do to help?" Nancy even surrendered part of her summer to help finish the book. I could not have done the job without them. Thanks also go to all ofmy friends who, whenever I expressed my doubts about my ability to finish the book, expressed confidence that I could do it. Well, I did it. The book is finished. Now that it is finished I hope that it contains some of the memories of the past year for each of you. There were good times and bad times, but all in all it was a good year. For the 1978 graduates it was the best! Rebecca L. Walker Editor-In-Chief 1978 Dissenter f 1 1 .fi .
