Dear Editor: With deep regrets I have written to inform you of a grave injustice in which you and your fellow staff members have taken an active part. Everytime a productive student has left this university to take his or her place in our work- ing society you have given credit to the late James Shepard and this institution, North Carolina Central University. I am the backbone behind Mr. Shepard and this university. I am the Spirit of the Eagle ! With the founding of this university by Mr. Shepard I have turned my attention from flying aimlessly at night to try- ing to help people. I have chosen to gather high school graduates from nations like Africa, Cuba, South America, etc. I have chosen graduates from states like New Jersy, New York, North and South Carolina, Florida, etc. I have chosen graduates from cities such as Charlotte, Fayetteville, Durham and even smaller cities such as Tin City. The assumption is that people from New York could tell others about riots and pimps, while the country crowd could tell them about cropping tobacco and what it means to have a monkey on your row. My exchange program is work- ing nicely also. After my guinea pigs have gathered here 1 add 2 teaspoons full of brute spectator sports. From September to Oc- tober I encourage my specimens to watch the football team in action; the moral of the lesson is to teach tackling future conflicts head-on. After my guinea pigs have simmered in this environment for 2 months, I add four pinches of creative spectator sports. From October to February I allow my basketball players to run and gun, I encourage teamwork and school pride in both sports. I even allow my specimens to give pep rallies before home games. My most important ingredient is a cup of knowledge. I order all of my people leaders to really get my specimens to study. No field of endeavor is closed to them. If they want to study law, biology, sociology, nursing, or anything they desire. I encourage them to study hours on end at night and rise before morning classes to study some more. I fully realize that guinea pigs must have some sort of outlet and I provide movies. I allow musicians to perform concerts. I allow my students to participate in plays and organize dances. I provide a dash of culture. The Ebony Fashion Show and the William O ' Farrow Art Exhibit are two of my major accomplishments. If the coronation of Miss N.C.C.CJ. isn ' t culture then grits ain ' t grocery. Black people must never forget where they came from and who helped them over their stumbling blocks. I let them celebrate Martin Luther King ' s birthday on January 15. I let them have a Black History Week from February 6-10. I even let them have a Founder ' s Day program in November. My last ingredient is a teaspoon full of the future. On October 17, job interviews begin at the Career Counseling and Placement Bureau. I even allow a task force of graduated students to come back and give the less fortunate ad- vice. On February 14, I ' m allowing Tom Jackson to lecture on Guerilla Tactics in the Job Market. In conclusion, whether the students, yourself, or your staff members realize it or not I made you and I can destroy you. Prepare to give credit where credit is due or be prepared to meet your Maker. Sincerely yours, Spirit of the Eagle M H M M E M M M M M M M M M M M M M M M hi M I H P M $$ M M M w M M I M M M ffl M M M M m M if M M M H M
