' i The Career Counseling and Placement Bureau serves as a crossroad for graduating seniors, graduate students, law students, and alumni as they continue their plans for the transition from the classroom to the world of work. Additionally, a full- time career counseling program is offered for students, faculty, and staff relative to employment opportunities in various types of business, industrial, educa- tionally oriented, governmental and private emplo ' ing sectors. More than 500 representatives from throughout the United States visit the Career Counsel- ing and Placement Bureau dur- ing the academic year to conduct interviews with prospective candidates for employment with their respective firms, agencies, and institutions. Part-time job placement counseling is also available for students desiring part-time work while enrolled in academic sessions, and co- operating education (alternating semester sessions of in-school study with on-the-job training] is available beginning with the sophomore level. The staff of the Career Coun- seling and Placement Bureau wish the Class of 1974 every success in your quest for the career of your choice, and stand ready to assist you. Frederick Douglass tmmi 1973 HOMECOMING Homecoming week began on Monday, October 22, with Maroon and Gray Day and the crowning of Miss NCCU and Miss Homecoming. During the pageantry, the audience was entertained by singers and dancers from the University. A formal reception followed the ceremonies. Excitement mounted with a pep rally on Tuesday night in the Women ' s Gym. Maintaining the tradition of previewing fall and win- ter fashions, numerous style-setters modeled their apparel in appropriate settings on Wednesday. Many students shivered around the jukebox on Thursday night during the annual street dance. On Friday, the mourners turned out for the mock-funeral of a South Carolina State Bear and joined in a New Or- leans-style funeral with full regalia. Following the funeral, the cheerleaders led the crowd in familiar songs and yells around the bonfire. Saturday morn- ing began with a dawn dance and breakfast, fol- lowed by the colorful parade of bands, queens, and floats. Playing before an overflowing crowd of ar- dent fans, the Eagles met the Bears in a MEAC con- test. Homecoming week ended on Saturday night with an exciting concert featuring the Isley Brothers. Students — past and present — enjoyed another suc- cessful Homecoming. COURT MISS N.C.C.U Miss Sarah A. Cauthen of Newton, North Carolina, is the only girl of four children. She is the daughter of Mr. Mrs. Minas Cauthen. Sarah is a 1970 graduate of Newton-Conover High School and is an Accounting Major at North Carolina Central University. Her future plans in- clude becoming a Public accountant and later attending Graduate School. Miss Cauthen has participated in the Baptist Student Union, Big Sister Organization and presently is an active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Phi Beta Lambda, and the National Association of Black Accountants. She was Miss Alpha Phi Alpha and Miss Alpha IKappa Alpha for 1972-73. MISS HOMECOMING Miss Ossie Prattsie Cunningham of Virgilina, Virginia, is the third of three children and is the daughter of Mr. Mrs. Ossie L. Cunningham, Jr. She i s an English major with an Education minor. Her future plans include attending Graduate School. Miss Cunningham is affiliated with the English Club, the National Council of Teachers of English, the North Carolina English Teachers ' Association, and the Student National Edu- cational Association. She studied at Oxford University, Oxford, England, under the sponsor- ship of the University of North Carolina at Ashevllle, North Carolina.
