These Seniors, who were deprived of an established tradition, were given the responsibility to establish new traditions and did not lack in this responsibility. This has been a year of iirsts in North Sacramento. The students have seen this city's first student council, first football team, first basketball team, and, above all, they have seen a beautiful and modern high school spring from a barren field. Only through the efforts and drive put forth by these Seniors With the constant help of the Student Body, was it possible to establish the sound foun- dation on which Norte Del Rio has begun to riseg IT shall continue to rise! All of this could not have been possible without the understanding and help of the district and school administration, for they did everything possible to provide us with the tools by which we will be able to take our place in society. It is from the vigorous spirit and support of the graduating Seniors that Norte Del Rio in its first year has been able to earn and receive admiration and deep respect from many students, teachers, and administrators in Northern California. Therefore, it is with deep pride and pleasure to dedicate the Hrst CAROUSEI. to you-THE FIRST GRADUATING SENIORS OF THE NORTE DEI.. After dropping their first three games to James Marshall, .K x Jackson, and El Camino, these hustling B's under the able J S direction of Coach Johnson came to life and startled the ..- coaches in this area by dumping a highly regarded Rose- v ff, ' ville five. These players made Rio known by winning eight straight to wind up the season. Coach Johnson's men upset the dope 1 sheet completely by blasting Sacramento High School, Sac I Joaquin B Champions, by a score of 40 to 36. C h J h Obviously, our 1956 B Basketball players have proven them- occ 0 mon selves to be one of the best teams in the Sacramento area. t Kiirrn :Q I 'tr' 'tl 4 Mike Babcock Benny Parra Bob Blanco LL 9 Bill Calvo 5 ,U .9 X !Wq?" w X " -a A'-vital: lik N... Tom Alexander, Richard Guarienti, Mitch Tad- lock and Richard Fulton proved to be good enough to place in many events throughout the season. All of these boys placed in the Stockton Qualifying Meet toward the end of the season. Mitch Tadlock took a first in the 440 yard dis- tance in this meet. ln a three-way meet with El Dorado and Grant, Norte came close in its first year of competition to beating its cross-town rival - Grant High School. This was a year of building good material for the following years, and Coach Chuck Slagle looks for a high scoring team next year. Norte will lose many outstanding seniors this year, but a large number of eager and promising sopho- mores and juniors makes the future years look bright and filled with many first place winners. NORTE promises to be a strong school in the track and field events.
