Gamyma '-that was the Class of 1954 out and out 1 and could very well have been our motto. Our first successful accomplishment in our last year was the mysterious and comical senior play, Home Sweet Homicide. Not only through the efforts of the cast but also through the cooperation and support of the class itself was the play such a wonderful success. Following the play was the senior banquet, Dreamer's Paradise. That night we shall never forget. The Senior Congress was the driving force behind these activities. lts members were chosen from their respective homerooms, making Congress the nucleus of our class. The meetings were conducted by the class officers with the help of our class sponsor, Mrs. Borzelleca. Following the play and the banquet were the senior assembly and the senior prom. But deepest in our hearts were Baccalaureate, Senior Day, and our Gradua- tion. It was then we said good-bye to all which we may later call the best years of our lives. These were the seniors who had served their school well and according to their classmates or teachers were deserving of recognition for their merits. The Outstanding Seniors, chosen by their classmates, were those who had been active in extra-curricular affairs and eminent in all they did. By a faculty decision, Honor Society membership was determined. Scholarship, leadership, character, and service were the major factors in choosing the recipients of this award. Bjorseth, Charles lnterrante. undef: pawn W'hat could be more exciting and wonderful than a glimpse into four corners of our fascinating earth? The theme of the Junior Prom, Music in the lNIoonlight acted as a shiny six- engined constellation as it skimmed each couple through the starlit sky around the globe. From the bewitching Orient where our plane chose to circle over a rose-strewn rickshaw, to an entrancing Hawaiian beach framed in swaying palms, the plane followed its itinerary. Third stop was gay Paree, with her dazzling shops and unique sidewalk cafes. Last stop-Holland--a windmill bidding us a warm wel- come from a charming little country. And so, home again to the most wonderful land of all-America-to a little flowered bridge lending itself to a small fisherman trying his luck. Music in the Moonlight was interrupted by a brief inter- mission for delicious refreshments on the moonlit terrace and a short walk around the rose gardens. XY'ho could ever forget that exciting round-the-world trip, dancing to the terrific music of jimmy Ryan and his orchestra, that special spot after the prom, all in that beautiful made-to-order spring night. The moon comes up on the junior Prom, 'wliiploe lbru Ibn' tulips. Tefe-a-Tele. Q X Time out for talk. So this is the Orientf genial: play Somebody had been killed. Killed! Remember those lines? They were from our senior play Home Sweet Homicide. Remember how hard we all worked and how much fun everyone had making our pro- duction a success. The cast really deserved all the compliments and praise that they got. They had to be at every re- hearsal on time and ready to gog and remember how most of them walked around the halls with one eye open after a long night rehearsal the last two weeks before the play? Looking in on rehearsal, one was apt to find almost anything: for instance, Mr. Allen, our coach, running madly across the stage firing a pistol full of blanks uttering some weird noises that meant please learn your lines. It was certainly an experience the cast will never forget. Of course nothing could ever have been done if it hadn't been for the committees, the backbone of the whole thing. Most of us worked on some com- mittee and in that way contributed our share to the finished product. The Property Committee really had a lot of fun rounding up such items as a few O11 grieff Ola agony' revolvers, gumdrops, lemon pie filling, cinnamon cakes, and blackmail papers. The Costume Commit- tee had a big job to make sure that he looked like an innocent, impudent, spoiled little brother, or that she looked like a vain, silly, plump, good- hearted woman in her sixties. The Make-up Commit- tee seemed to enjoy smearing the faces of the cast with grease paint and eyebrow pencil. Without the Publicity Committee who handed out little tags, and the ever faithful Stage Committee who were always there when needed, we just couldn't have produced anything. The ticket and Program Committees also worked really hard and added their efforts to the rest of the ingredients of the first project of our senior year. The Artistry Committee put the finish- ing touches on the whole sage with thc pretty and appealing setting which they created. Others of us were ushers, and of course everybody worked hard to sell tickets. On the nights of Friday, November 13th fthe per- fect date for a murder mystery comedyj and Satur- day, November 14th, everyone was tense with ex- citement as the melodious strains of Dragnet faded and the curtains rose on Home Sweet Homicide. Under the direction of Mr. Holton, the N.H.S. band has always striven to play better music and to play music better. Things began to roll when the football season arrived. The marching band was composed of a group of boys who practiced hard and developed high standards both in music and marching. After the football season came more numbers which would develop a good concert tone for com- ing events, such as the Band Assembly and the Spring Music Festival. Each year musicians with exceptional ability have a chance to participate in Valley Forge Area Band, District Band, and District Orchestra. The members in these organizations were selected on a competitive basis from among the best musicians in the South- eastern District. This year, N.H.S. had the privilege of being host to All State Band, consisting of the high ranking players of each of the districts in Pennsylvania. Our Though the earth be filled u'itlJ flowery . . The Vocational students were not in their rooms as usual but were seen scampering around the gym and through the halls carrying pennants, wagon wheels, and various other paraphernalia. A big event was to take place: The annual Barn Dance sponsored by the Vocational Society. The Vocational Society was composed of qualified L- boys who were approved by their teachers, Mr. Dolas as sponsor, and the students of the group. After new members of the group were chosen, an election was held for otiicers. The Vocational Society had planned from the first week of school their big affair. W hile attending Norristown High School we seniors revived a noteworthy in our Alma Mater- the golf team. Although the team's start was not very auspicious, they gained much valuable experi- ence and planted firmly the foundation upon which future golf teams could be built. Practice for them began early in the spring, being held four evenings a week and consisting of hitting golf balls to one another-and playing. The team was very generously granted the use of the facilities of the Plymouth Country club, and anyone near that vicinity during a practice session may have been witness to a wild barrage of golf balls flying in all directions: or may have seen a group of disconsolate, future Ben Hogans looking futily in the woods or a creek for a lost ball! The team's opponents included Pottstown, Bridge- port, Hill School junior Varsity, and the faculty. Perhaps, best remembered would be their match with the faculty. But this year-l954- enough girls became enthusiastic about splashing in the water to form a top-notch team. Many of the girls were inexperienced when they first put on their flashy red suits and dived into the water. But under the direction of Coach lNIiss Bauer and Asslt Coach Miss Bosler of Stewart, the girls became accustomed to the feel of the different strokes and became a unit which was capable of competing against other scholastic teams. The first meet was against Coatesville. Carol Jones started things rolling by taking first in the 40-yd. freestyle sprint. Tanya Maloff, 80-yd. freestyle, Betsy Gruber, 80-yd. breaststroke, and Millie Forsyth, diving, racked up firsts, giving the team sufficient points to tie the score, 53-33.
