4fdme4 ajfdmmzw Presldent Robert Rhoades V1ce Presldent Roy Barclay Secretary Dwlght Zehr Treasurer Delmar Laesch Reporter Robert Zlmmerman The Future Farmers of Amerlca IS a natlonal organlzatxon of students lnterested 1n xocatlonal educatlon ln agrlculture The purpose IS to strengthen the confldence of the farm boy ln hlmself and hlS work to dexelop rural leadershlp and to create an lnterest ln farmlng as an occupatlon The orgamzatlon has four grades of membershlp based upon achxexement The grades are flrst Green Hands second Future Farmers thlrd State Farmers fourth Amerlcan Farmers Not more than three percent of the boys ln the state studylng agrlculture may achleve the thlrd degree and only those who have recexved lt may become Amerlcan Farm ers The lnslgma of the Future Farmers of Amerlca IS made up of four symbols namely flrst a cross sectlon of an ear of corn representmg common agrlcultural lnterests smce corn IS natlve of Amerlca and grows ln every state the owl representmg progress the Future Farmers of Amerlca colors are gold and natlonal blue The Normal Chapter IS now only seven years old and IS proud of the fact that two mem bers Henry and Orvllle Thomas achleved the requlrements of State Farmers degree durlng the past year ACTIVITIES OF THE CHAPTER In June 1941 the Normal F F A Chapter journeyed through several of the southern states on a slght seemg trlp The boys vlslted such po1nts of lnterest as Wonder Cawe Look out Mountaln and the famous race horse farms xn the blue grass reglons Later ln August the Chapter had lts Sectlonal Agrlcultural Faxr at Metamora Of the agrlculture group forty f1ve boys completed nmety projects The twenty nme swine pro jects netted a proflt of 515 166 conslstmg of Roy Barclay Robert Rhoades Dwlght Zehr and Glenn Woosley won A rating 1n the Sectlonal Contest and B ratxng ln the State Robert Rhmehart Leland Powers Wallace Norrls and Richard Taylor made up the Gram Team and won A ratlng at the Sectlonal Contest Twelfth place was won by our Mllk Team consxstmg of Robert Rhoades Roy Barclay and Glenn Woosley and also the Beef Team conslstlng of Wallace Norrls Ralph Blgger Robert Rhmehart recelved B ratlng IH the State Contest Thls marks the seventh year our Chapter has dlstrubuted garden seeds The boys ln our Chapter are also selllng seeds ln our own Chapter This axds ID makmg good salesmen out of our boys On October 11 our Chapter held a Hog Sale thls alded ln reducmg the boys surplus stock Forty fxve head were sold for an average of thlrty three dollars Thls was about ten to flfteen dollars more than the market DFICC Thls sale proved very satisfactory and the boys had the experlence of selllng ln a sale rmg Our Chapter went to the Internatalonal Lne Stock Exposxtxon Many slghts ln Chlcago were seen such as the WLS radxo statlon and Marshall Fxeld store A great deal of knowl edge was obtamed on judglng prlze stock from VlSllZlIlg the Internatlonal Every one seemed to have a good tlme but Robert Zlmmerman he had devoured too many hamburgers hot dogs and pop When evenlng came Mr Moore had to tuck Robert ln bed whlle the other boys enjoyed seelng slghts and the Internatlonal Horse Show Too bad Robert Also Norman Sllm Orr was found completely exhausted after a hard days searchmg for the Normal bovs after belng lost Except for these tvuo boys our Chapter had a very enjoyable trlp I I : l I I 1 I Q 1 , - u . . .
