Lsnroan Scoring 247 points to the opposition's 287, Coach Loyd Ledford's crew of paches completed the 1936-37 basketball season with three wins and fourteen r1!6f wefeats. QA Starting with a promising squad of fourteen players, Ledford was hard hit by the mid-year graduation of several team members and also by ineligibility of a few outstanding men. Ioe Gonzalez, inspirational Apache center, left the team to go to the coast and lett the squad in poor shape. The addition of Florencio Velasquez, however, bolstered up the squad and the Apache squad began to give better accounts of themselves in games. At the Southern Conference Tournament, the Apaches were conceded little hope of getting farther than the first round but they surprised everyone by going through to the consolation finals, dropping a close tilt to the strong Bobcats from Benson high. Those reporting for the first practice session were: Vicente Cota, Leonard Sisneros, Florencio Velasquez, Mike Rosas, Iames Goodman, Salvador Iury, Henry Robles and Rudy Guerrero, forwards: Gus Franklin, Robert Espinoza and Daniel Fimbres, guards: Iarnes Fraizer and Ioe Gonzalez, centers. Almost the entire squad will be lost by graduation. A9425 l .J lin ' f J D f

G US FRANKLIN MANAGERS ........,. ....... , .LES HARDY, SEARLE MILLER COACH ..............,.............,,......... . .....,,..........A...... LOYD LEDFOHD Track prospects for 1937 are the brightest in years. At the time this was written, the Apaches had just started practice sessions and had not taken part in any meets. The meets in which they will participate are: Southern Conference Track and Field Meet, Douglas Invitational Track and Field Meet and the four-wav track meet here with the Club Deportivo Nogalense, Patagonia and Sonora High School. Providing the Apaches place in the conference meet, they will be eligible for the State Track and Field Meet in Tucson. Gus Franklin, senior member of the Apache track squad, was elected captain of the team and will lead his mates in several events. Ledford is working hard with a crew of sophomores and freshmen in hopes of developing a strong, competent track team in the near future. Lonnie Sisneros, crack Apache quarter-rniler and a senior, has con- sistently shown signs of breaking his own previous records in the quarter mile in practice sessions. Track men reporting now are: Alex Kerson, Alex Leyva, Iames Macris, Manuel Moreno, Ernest Heath, Frank Reed, Everardo Cordova, Carlos Garcia, Mike Ahumada, Sammy Marcus, Bill Mahlow, Manuel Gustellum, Iames Fraizer, Bill Underwood, Manuel Flores, Arthur Doan, Spiro Panas, Wil- liam Bettwy, Victor Arana, Eugene Siddell, Leonard Sisneros and Captain Gus Franklin. x44-Q
