H ENRY ARINO, HARRY KARNS I y Coach Loyd Ledford's Nogales Apaches completed one of their most successful seasons in years, gaining four wins, losing two and playing a scoreless tie. Ledford's first call for practice was answered by Z2 aspirants and the mentor immediately drew up a hard training routine. Those answering his first call for practice -were: H. Larriva, H. Arino, H. Karns, C. Garcia, I. Garcia, F. Holler, R. Espinoza, A. Doan, I. Watkins, I. Goodman, I. Gutierrez, A. Villanueva, V. Cota, G. Franklin, I. Patton, I. Teyechea, E. Padilla, M. Flores, A. Leyva, E. Robles, O. Bridges and M. Ahumada. The two defeats administered the Apaches came at the hands of the Tucson Badgers and the Southwestern champions, Mesa's Iackrabbits. In the Tucson game, the Apaches held the upper hand momentarily in the first few minutes of play, but a costly fumble gave the Tucsonans the ball and on the first play, they ran around the end for a touchdown, the only one during the game, which was scored not more than three minutes after the first whistle. The Iackrabbits boasted too fast and competent a squad for the injury hampered Apaches and the Mesans merely breezed through the contest. The scores of the games were: Willcox 0, Nogales 465 Bisbee O, Nogales 0, Nogales O, Tucson 7: Nogales 7, Globe 67 Tomb stone O, Nogales l8g Nogales 6, Mesa 25, Phoenix Indians 6, Nogales 19. Even though the schedule called for only three games, the Papooses trained hard during the entire season, preparing for games that were few and far be- tween. The first game against the strong Tucson Indians resulted in a setback in form of a 14-6 defeat. The game was marred by roughness but the Papooses Worried their more experienced adversaries no end during the hectic fiasco. The second game of the season evened things up as Bellman's charges smothered a hapless Patagonia High School Lobo eleven, 25-O. lt was the first scalp for the seconds and gave added impetus to the second win over the Lobos by a 33-0 score. lt was the last game of the season but practice continued until the varsity completed their schedule. Gonzalo Puchi ably captained the squad. Those reporting for the initial practice session were: Florencio Velasquez, Alex Kerson, Manuel Gustellum, Fermin Del Muro, Everardo Cordova, Henry Patton, Mario Lopez, Ed ltule, loe Pierson, Benjamin Brolick, lack Titcomb, Bllly Mahlow, Phillip Saba, Frank Reed, Iohn Patton, Mario Trujillo, Hector Calderon, Frank Nava, Salvador Cota and Manager Hawley Evans. These men will receive Apacheheads in the honor assembly later for their fine work during the season.
