' ......,........... H ORTENSIA PUCHI SPONSOR ......,,..,,,.,..,,..,.......,.... MR. B. WALLACE As we look back into the Iunior memory book of 1933, we see a group of 38 pupils promoted into the eighth grade, which in that year was to be part of the high school. Although fearful of the upper classmen, they proved that year by giving a dance, by placing second in the queen contest, and by playing an important part in football and basketball that they were worthy of consideration. This, of course, was due to the able sponsorship to Mr. L. Bellman and the direc- tion of Gerald Zenizo, then president. During their freshman year Gus Franklin was outstanding in track. He placed second in broad jump, third in high jump, and second in pole vault. They placed second for the second time in the King and Queen contest. In their sophomore year under the direction of Francisco Gonzalez they gave a successful dance. Carlos Garcia was named all conference man in football. In the play Be Yourself, presented by the Senior Class, several Iuniors took part. Margaret Bird, Roland Bibolet, and Eddie Itule took part in the musical contest held in Bisbee. Those who made the Iunior Honor Society were Leslie Hardy, Roland Bibolet, Margaret Bird, and Cecilia Tostado. In their Iunior year, because Mr. L. Bellman did not have time to attend the class meetings, they elected another sponsor, Mr. B. Wallace. This year they had Gonzalo Puchi as president, and under his direction they had sales, dances, and the Iunior Play entitled, Who's Crazy Now? in which the following Iuniors took part: R. Bibolet, P. Cohen, F. Piquero, L. Watkins, E. Siddell, M. Bird, H. Morse, W. Bettwy, and P. Parsons. On May 21 the Iunior Prom was held. The predominating spirit was that of a romantic garden, refreshments were served, serpentines, confetti, and balloons were distributed. In athletics Harry Karns, a Iunior, was the football captain. Among the out- standing players were C. Garcia, M. Ahumada, I. Watkins, V. Cota, G. Franklin, and I. Gonzales. Leslie Hardy was manager for both sports. Election for officers of the Board of Control was held May 3. Leslie Hardy and Francisco Gonzalez were the two high candidates for President. Alfredo Matiella was elected Vice-President, and Carlos Garcia Secretary. Q ff-sei? has ASX? WW ltfftff
