I i Q I ia li 5 1 l Q E i 1 5 '11 NOBLPJS HISTORY THE Uss NoBLE QAPA-2185 was built by Pa- manente Metals Corporation, Richmond, California, as United States Maritime Commission Hull No. 566. It was commis- sioned on 27 November 1944 and commenced wartime cruis- ing 30 January 1945. On 1 April 1945 the NOBLE partici- pated in landing a part of the Sixth Marine Division on Okinawa. After the Okinawa Operation the ship shifted to the Atlantic Fleet where it participated in the Reserve Train- ing Program, and the Vieques and Camid Opeartions. In August 1949 the NOBLE returned to the Pacific Fleet and took part in Operations Miki and Portrex. On August 17th of 1950 the NOBLE sailed for duty with Naval Forces Far East under ComPhibGru ONE. Upon arriving in Wespac the ship participated in the Inchon Landing and the second lift from Pusan to Wonsan with lifts and interim between Japan and Pusan. In April 1951, the NOBLE arrived in the States from its tour of duty in Wespac. After a brief stay in the States, the NOBLE sailed for Wespac in October 1951. Under CTF- 90 this tour, the NOBLE carried out routine missions. The NOBLE arrived in San Francisco on 28 June 1952. The NOBLE spent two months in dry dock during August and September of 1952. Routine training and exercises were ac- complished during the following months in the States. The NOBLE participated in "Operation Sea Jumpi' in April 1953. The remaining months in the States were spent get- ting the NOBLE in good shape for its coming tour in Wespac. . ,, 42 2 Q ? CAPTAIN ROYAL L. RUTTER, USN Commanding Officer CAPTAIN'S MESSAGE To me, a stranger in the Amphibious Force, our past cruise to WesPac was most enjoyable. Operating under difficult rules, revisiting old ports of call, made the time pass rapidly. We left the West Coast with a line ship and returned with it in the same condition. The credit for that goes to the NOBLE's fine crew. To all hands I say, "Well Done." YT"-'V' ' An n u' "-3:1i .." s I N' N' ' ' ,,,,,H - - ,, We can say with pride that the job has been well done. The wide variety of tasks assigned the NOBLE have tested our ability in almost every phase of Amphibious Warfareg from Flagship duty at Koje-Do to "house-boat" for ComNavPhil's Hong Kong tour and on northward to Hokkaido and Chigasaki with General Cus- ter's SEVENTH CAVALRY RErGIMENTg the NOBLE has been tested and has proved herself capable -of meeting every re- quirement. i Many of us had much to learn on that stormy July day when we sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge, but every man has learned his job well and demonstrated a keen awareness of all problems. We have built ourselves into a strong combat team and the re- sults have been gratifying. Each of us can be proud to know that he contributed his part to our standing of EXCELLENT. It has been a happy cruise and a successful one. I have been proud to serve on board with every one of you, and wish each man success in the future. Q L. L.
