4? , Nix 'lrlrrlr rlrrrriiaww, Q i ' Q . . CDR William H. Ward was born in LaPlatta, Maryland and enlisted in the U.S. Naval Resenfe in September 1962. He began active duty in January 1965 with a tour as an Interior Communi- cations Electrician on Board USS SEA ROBIN QSS-4071 where he completed enlisted subma- rine qualifications. While sewing as an IC1 CSSJ on USS GUDGEON CSS-567l, CDR Ward was selected to par- ticipate in the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education Program QNESEPJ at North Carolina State Uni- versity. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and was commis- sioned in December 1972. Returning to sea on board USS Ll'lTLE ROCK QCG-41 in April 1973, CDR Ward served as Missile Fire Control Officer and Navigator during the ship's final tour as Flag Ship for Comman- der, U.S. Naval Forces Sixth Fleet. ln June 1975 he participated in the first transit of the reopen- ing of the Suez Canal. A shore tour as instructor at Surface Warfare Officer Basic Course in Newport, Rhode Island followed. Upon completion of Surface Warfare Officer Department Head Course, CDR Ward reported in February 1978 to USS DOWNES QFF-10701 as ship's Engineering Officer. ln January 1980 he was assigned as First Lieutenant on board USS SCHENECTADYQLST-11851. He senfed as Recruiting Special Program Branch Head in the Naval Military Personnel Command for a year prior to assuming command of USS ESTEEM QMSO-4381 in February 1983. ln September 1985, CDR Ward assumed the duties as Executive Officer, USS SACRAMEN- TO QAOE-15. He joined the staff of Commander-in-Chief Pacific in October 1987 as Chief of Automated Data Processing for the Tomahawk Planning Center Pacific. On April 11, 1990, CDR Ward assumed command of the USS NITRO fAE-23j. CDR Ward's decorations include the Defense Meritorious Senfice Medal, Navy Commenda- tion Medal, and the Good Conduct Award. CDR Ward is married to the former Kathleen Lasko of Valparaiso, Indiana. They have two daughters, Kathryn and Jennifer.

He attended high school at Saint Francis Preparatory School in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, was a 1974 Graduate of St. Francis College in Loretto, Pennsylvania and is currently a Gradu- ate student at Monmouth College, Long Branch, New Jersey. CDR Donahoe has previously served as Damage Control Assistant on board USS DAMATO QDD-871jg Staff Instructor, Navy Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island, Weapons Officer on board USS HAROLD J. ELLISON CDD-864lg Reserve Weapons Officer, USS PATTERSON QFF-1061lg Operations Officer, USS SURIBACHI QAE-21jg Commanding Officer, U.S. Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center, West Tren- ton, New Jersey. CDR Donahoe is married to the former Noelle Allison Scoble of Alberta, Canada, who is a computer engineer for Johnson and Johnson Corporation.
