I believe it is true in every instance. lt seems funny, but l said the same thing when I was a student. Why is it we don't do better when we know we could if we tried? ' What do you want more than anything else in the world? How quickly could you give a serious answer to that question? Of course many of the greatest thinkers of all times have spent their lives seeking the answer. Nevertheless, each of us must resolve the question in one way or another. Unfortunately, some of us go through life reacting and accepting events as they come. Each of us is given a certain amount of talent. What we do with it is largely up to us. If we hope to have control over our own destiny, we must seek self-understanding to know what we want. Then knowledge, experience, and judgement. This is not an easy assignment, but the secret is to try. If we set our goals and consistently work towards them each day step by step we stand a good chance of success. ln the words of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: Life is real! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal, Dust thou art, to dust returnest, Was not spoken of the soul. Not enjoyment, and not sorrow, Is our destined end or way: But to act, that each to-morrow Find us farther than to-day.
