HISTORY OF NICHOLAS COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL In the year of 1929 in the Western part of Nicholas County, a building was erected that was known to be the Headquarters High School. This building was ready for use in the fall of 1930, but in the year of its building 1929 the high school pupils from Barterville joined the high school group at Irvingsville in the Old Irvingsville Baptist Church with Miss Mae Neal of Robinson County as Principal. . The year following the pupils were transferred to the New Building at Head- quarters with Miss Lorraine Booth as Principal. There was a very small grad- uating class in 1931, eight in number. However, many pupils graduated from as Headquarters High School. changed to Nicholas County High School. It all over the county. The year 1951 was the this school during the years it serves In the year 1947-48 the name was now received high school pupils from last of its graduating classes, a class of 23. During the school term of 1951-52 the high school was again transferred to a new building--The new Nicholas County High School, located near Carlisle. Mr. Henry Hale served as principal for one semester in the new building and saw the first class graduate. Thirty in number. The year 1952-53 is the first full year of school work in the new building.
