arid cyidfory ln 1949 a group of 50 Green freshmen entered what is now known as Headquarters School. Before the end of the school year we had lost eight. As we entered our Silly Sophomore year we had 42 but had gained four. Wilrna Jo Gaunce, Evalyn McDonald, Opal McCarty, and Sue Shrum, all from Bourbon County Vocational High School. Coming to the New Nicholas County High School as Jolly Juniors we were all anticipating the tirne when we would have what we have been working for so many years, the title of Dignified Seniors . We also found two new teachers, Mr. John Scanlon, teaching English Miss Jane Sturnp, music, and Mr. Charles Finnell, Coach. As the group of 38 Juniors finally became Seniors and entered school, we found a new Principal, Mr. Howard Moore from Tolles- boro High School. Also Miss Esabella Knight replacing Mr. John Scanlon in English. We lost 4 of our members. Ray Dixon, Sterling Hollar, Layne Hollar, and Ward Shannon who was called to the Air Force. As we measured for our caps and gowns, ordered invitations and planned our trip, we realized that our goal was alrnost won. So with 12 years of knowledge in our head and a diploma under our arm we leave all our lower classmate friends and teachers behind to begin an new life all our own. 1 D
