the close of our high school career at Nicholas County High School In September nineteen hundred forty four we were just a small blue sky with eighteen little stars Ralph Hovermale was chosen as our President, Marjory Hiller as our Vice President, Rouse Gaunce as our Secretary, and R L Duncan as our Treasurer Our home room teacher was Miss Alpha Brierly who helped us through the storms of our Freshmen Year It was during this year that James Brady came from Bourbon County High to join our class In September nineteen hundred forty five we found ourselves back at school with our old friends and teachers This time there were twenty of us taking our place as Sophomores We had lost some of our green coloring and had taken on a more intelligent look This year we found our paths a little rougher but with the help of Miss Botts, our home room teacher, and with our great deter mination to overcome all obstacles, we were well on our way Our officers for this year were President, R L Duncan, Vice President, Marjory Miller, Sec retary, Frances Ritchie, Treasurer, Rouse Gaunce, and Reporter, Bobby Fryman Among those who dropped out in our Sophomore Year were Alberta Gilbert, Aileen Stone, Allen Marshall, James Bealert, and Merdith Jackson Although we regret ted that these classmates left us, their places were quickly filled by Helen Grimes from Center Hill, Sam Clinkenbeard from Carlisle, Mary Frances Barbee from Deming High, and Beulah Caldwell from Paris Crossings, Indiana The fall of nineteen hundred forty six was a very happy occasion for all of us because now we were jolly Juniors looking forward to an unforgettable tear at school with Marjory Miller, President, James Brady, Vice President, R L Duncmy as our home room teacher Again this year we added three new members to our class They were Charles Wagoner, who joined us after serving twenty two months in the Navy, and John Sibert and Clarence Jackson, who remained with us only a short time At the end of this year there were eighteen gleaming and intelligent stars in our sky The most outstanding event of our Junior year was our play, 'Here Comes Charlie' Again in September we returned to school, not to Headquarters High School, but to Nicholas County High School The name had been changed and six county students came to join us They were Betty Ecton, Wanda Vice, Maxine Weddle, Ellen Wilson, and June Clavell It was this year at the end of the first semester that lr John P Pirtle, who had been our Principal for eight and one half years, resigned Although we regretted to see him leave, Hr Wall, our assistant Principal, has very ably taken over the position 'We are grateful to him for guiding us safetly through the remainder of this, our Senior Year Our officers for this year were President, Ralph Hovermale, Vice President, Wanda Vice, Secretary, Helen Grimes, Treasurer, Betty Ecton, and Reporter, Harjory Hiller Mr Wall was our home room teacher for the first semester and Mrs Williams our home room teacher for the second semester Now we are coming to the close of our happy school days, our blue sky is fading away and each sparkling star must take a separate path in this world with its many vocations and opportunities without the leadership of our teachers and the companionship of our classmates We realize that we will have many hard ships and difficulties to overcome, but we feel we are ready to meet every challenge with knowledge and courage We feel we are able to overcome these difficulties with the faith and confidence we have in ourselves, because we have laid a solid foundation here at Nicholas County High during the last four years Secretary, Ralph Hovermale, Treasurerg Helen Grimes, Reporter, and Mrs. Henney CLASS BOOSTER To boost is to see the good that
