Presidents Message The American culture seems forever fascinated by observancies, in particular the commemoration of ser- vice or mere existence of institutions in terms of neatly measured periods of time. Favorite denominators are "decades" and "centennials" or appropriate multi- ples of these. It is to the point, therefore, that Newton junior Col- lege will this year observe its Twentieth Commence- ment, marking two decades of degree-awarding ceremonies. The symbolism of this fact is important in itself. But far more relevant and significant than the simple passage of time is the substance of these years. This fleeting span of time has seen the College grow from a provocative idea in the 1940's to a proud and respected institution of higher learning which boldly confronts the pressing realities of the 196O's. That it has achieved a measure of success cannot easily be gainsaid. The landmarks of its progress to excellence and recognition are numerous and impressive, cul- minating this past year in the full-term accreditation of the College by the cognizant regional accrediting agency. This accomplishment alone places it in the vanguard of public two-year institutions in the New England area, a position at one and the same time of envy and responsibility. With the issuance of this Yearbook, in its new and more appropriate pictorial format, it is entirely proper that all who are identified with Newton junior College --students, faculty, and administrators alike-'-take the occasion to reflect with ,pride on the accomplishments of the College and to pledge themselves anew to its continuing growth and vitality. :o:o:o 0.0.0.0 0 0 1 .3:::3:g:2:1' O 0 O If I "'r.
