Foreign Language Students Participate in Language a With the addition of new teacher Mrs. Linda Daniel, the foreign language department had a complete roster of teach- ers this year. Mrs. Daniel came to Newton after attending college at Emporia State. She taught French 1, 2, and 3, with five classes daily. The Spanish students, under the teaching of Mrs. Maria Chaple, were active. Some of the students participated in the Mexican Independence Fiesta. The Fiesta, correlating with the Newton Centennial, had many Spanish students from Newton High participating in dancing and singing por- tions of the programs on Main Street and in Lindley Hall. The program was held in early September. The Latin classes, under the teaching of Mrs. ,Patricia Randall, worked on semester projects during the first semes- ter. The projects were miniature replicas of the tools or utensils used by Romans in everyday life. All of the foreign language students took part in Language Day at McPherson College November 12. The day consisted mainly of singing and talking with students from other schools in the Southwestern Kansas area. French 1 students, pictured below, led by Mrs. Daniel, sing songs in their first hour class. The songs help the students become more familiar with the French language. Foreign Language Department: Mrs. Maria Chaple, Mrs. Linda Daniel, Mrs. Patricia Randall. julie Hand, Latin 1 student, works on a question and answer sheet. The sheet is a daily paper prepared for the next day written in Latin.
