T-The preliminary worl: began in October of l97l with a group of citizens evaluating needs of the community. Vtfith their recommendation for a new high school, the citizens pre- sented a plan for the H444 system. Tlitis. system divides the students into three groups - kindergarten through fourth grade, primary, fifth through eighth, inter- mcdiateg ninth through twelfth, high school. This system would reduce the crowd- ed situations and enable each school to have a hot lunch program. ' ' ' I ' J l J After thc recommendations were made, .the board members decided tol put the ' I r' r issue into tne form or a bond. The involvement of the community contributed greatly to the overwhelming success of -the bond? .. . The next job was to find an architectual agency that would fulfill the needs of the community. After much consideration, Louis C.. lliingscott and Company of Kalamazoo, irfiichigan, was selected. The 'building is to be an extremely flexible one. The walls of some of the rooms may be moved by the maintainance staff of the high school in a relatively short time. The building is comprehensive with a great emphasis on vocational education. There are adequate physical education facilities witha swimming pool, gymnastic and wrestling areas. .There is a very large commons area also. ' ' This new building, to be completed in September of 1973, will be on-e of the fin- est high schools in the entire state of Kansas.
