'Ylstf 40a VOCAL MUSIC New director for choruses Students enrolled in vocal music classes this year, found a change in instructors. Mr. Leon Ballenger took over teaching choral classes replacing Mr. Dan Zollars, who had taught the courses for the past several years. The vocal curriculum is made up of C-irl's Glee Club, Boy's Glee Club, Mixed Chorus and Choraleers. These groups presented several performances during the school year, includ- ing fall, winter, and spring concerts. They par- ticipated in Commencement, Baccalaureate, and in the state music festival in the spring. They also sang for social functions and for school assemblies during the year. ENSEMBLES Railaires put on Pop Concert This year's selective ensembles, Rail- aires, Pep Band, and Stage Band broadened their popularity. Railaires put on a spring Pop Concert for the first time. They also performed in school concerts, helped welcome Paul Harv- ey to Newton, and brightened the Veteran's Hospital in Wichita with their songs. Pep Band promoted spirit throughout the year at basket- ball games and pep assemblies. Stage Band traveled to Hutchinson and Wichita State Uni- versity to participate in clinics and play in con- certs. Dances and proms highlighted spring events for them. . AS A MEMBER OF PEP BAND RAILAIRES consists of sixteen singers selected from Chora- leers. The Railaires were BACK ROW: Monty Frey, Barbara Smith, Brad Schwabauer, jill Boese.
