WORKING TOGETHER to complete their chemistry exper- iment are Ron johnson and Hugh Grant. abo rato ries Increased laboratory facilities at Newton High School have given an ever increasing number of science students the opportunity to observe and perform experiments. An expand- ing and growing science program also permits students to choose those subjects which inter- est them most. The mathematics program has also been expanding by offering several differ- ent approaches and concepts of math to suit the individual needs of almost every student. OBSERVING THE RESULTS of their experiment in second hour physics class are Ken Coleman and john Fitzgerald.

FOURTH ROW: Betty Bumgarner, Cindy Budde Lowe, Nancy Allen, Darrel Phipps, Charlene Henderson, john Hamm, Loren Tedder, Charles Baker, Ross Hiebert, Phillip New uniforms were worn by the band this year. They were black with gold trim and could be used for concert or marching appearances with few minor adjustments. The marching band had a very busy year. Besides participating in halftime shows at home football games, they marched in the Veterans' Day Parade and helped welcome home the 89th Division from Viet Nam. The highlight of the year was the trip to Lawrence where they took part in the annual University of Kansas Band Day on November'l. The concert band performed in Lindley Hall on lanuary 22 and again in March. The orches- tra also gave a concert on February 26. Both groups spent the remainder of the year in preparation for the State Music Festival in the Spring. Mr. Gary Fletcher, in summary of class activi- ty, feels they enjoy a love and appreciation of all kinds of music and a sense of accomplish- ment through a well coordinated group effort.
