LANGUAGE ARTS Debaters take third in state After the debate year had ended, the NHS debaters entered the post-season tourna- ments. At the first tournament, the Regionals, the Newton squad placed first. The following week the debaters went to Emporia for the State meet, placing third. Coach McCracken stated, I am very pleased with this year's squad, especially one girl, Mary Snapp, who compiled a record of 45 wins with only 8 defeats. This year the Drama Department added two new classes. Dramatics II was created for those students wishing to go further than Drama I in the field of dramatics. Students enrolling in the other new class, Dramatics II Section II, learned about backstage techniques. This class includ- ed the study of make-up, lighting, sound ef- fects, and set construction. DURING AN IMPROMPTU SESSION in her Drama class, Debbie Settles gives her reaction after eating spinach.
