PRINCIPAL AND VICE-PRINCIPAL New Principal administers NHS In his first year as principal of Newton High School, Mr. Bernard Scheer has already done much to improve and change the school. Among these accomplishments are the estab- lishment of a student center, the issuance of student identification cards, and revisions in the dress code. In contrast to Mr. Scheer's rela- tive inexperience at Newton High School, Mr. Curtis Fischer has been working to improve and develop NHS for more than twenty-one years as both a teacher and an administrator. Mr. Scheer began his college education at the University of Nebraska which he attended for two years until he was called for military service. After his discharge, he received his BA from Hastings College and later did summer work at the University of Nebraska where he received his Masters Degree in 1961. Presently Mr. Scheer is completing requirements for his Doctorate from the University of Wyoming where he was a graduate assistant in the Col- lege of Education last summer.

He accepted a job in industrial engineering at Hesston Manufac- turing Company. Mr. Alden Allbaugh, remaining counselor, with the help of his secretary, Mrs. jean Schroeder, dealt with student problems. He helped students decide which subjects to take, what colleges to attend, and what vocational fields to enter. NHS secretaries, Mrs. Karen McAdow and Mrs. Darlene Stucky, tried a new system of handling absences this year. Absences were recorded each hour and the parents of these absent students were called.
