It assists the students by making the rules that govern Newton High. The council enables students to see a government in action. As a student government, it provides training in the government field, and it also gives the students an idea of the many problems involved in administration. Sanderson, traveled to Hutchinson to play at the State Fair. It played during all the home football games and partici- pated in Band Day at Kansas State University. The Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Gary Fletcher, had 50 members. It performed at concerts and programs. The Orchestra gave a spring concert and spent one day on tour playing for assemblies in other schools. Special groups attended the District Music Festival.
