Phyllis Utterback, gtudent Gounci fiivzafz The Student Council, led by its president, Ned Arthur, and advisor, Alden Allbaugh, closes the year of 1952-53 with a fine record of achievements. Many things have been accomplished this year by this governing body of Newton High School. Besides the fine dance and assemblies which were held during the year, the student council, which meets every Wednesday morn- ing during activity period, helped NHS to keep its sportsmanship and spirit at the highest level by organizing many school activities and supporting all the school functions. Newton High School's library is one of the outstanding features of the school. From its Well-lighted room, equipped with shelves of all varieties of books and many comfortable tables E Erlwarrla Leffimrwcll, Norma Stahly, Nancy Ruth Ayv-rs. and Irene liirlu-1'sol1. and chairs, students can find information need- ed for their studies and entertainment. To help students select the proper books and articles is Mrs. Mary Roberts, head libra- rian. Assisting her in her many duties are her student librarian helpers. These students were chosen by Jean Ralph, head monitor, and Mr. Morris on the basis of responsibility, grades, and because they would set a good example of conduct. Serving in the office and giving a helping hand to Mrs. Florence Blankenship were the office girls. These senior girls were chosen by Mr. Morris and Mrs. Mary Roberts.
