., ' 45,- V .,, 1 Il l- ., W K ...Z .A.5' 7' Housemaster Batchelder Barry Civics Committee ' Barry Houses second year of existence was even more exciting and enthusiastic than the first. The house spirit and morale was centered around the Barry key to success, replicas of which were available to students. The first activity of the year was an X-block musical review, C.'d by Housemaster Batchel- der. During the review, which was a smashing success, students were urged to buy keys. Barry House awarded an honor banner to the homeroom with the greatest percentage of students on the honor roll, thus encouraging good scholar- ship. Barry's social activities this year were centered around small group coke socials. At these parties, which were directed by Mr. Batchelder and the schools most active house council, Barry students had the opportunity to get to know each other well. The enthusiasm, comradeship, excitement, and spirit of cooperation that exemplify this house have led the whole school to realize that Barry is the best house in Newton High School. , BACON HOUSE s ,s o' ' ' . . . . , o .- --- ' 0 . 1---Q Housemaster Swan Bacon House once again proved itself to be the best all-around house this year. The house must be praised for offering the use of its outstanding facilities to the rest of the school. Although there was a charge for admission to the auditorium at times, there was no minimum in the cafeteria, and all health programs in the gyms were given free of charge. A peaceful relationship was maintained with the Main Office. the Principal's Office, the Vice Principals Office, and the College Records Office, all of which are allowed to stay only if they are good. Besides helping the school, Bacon took part in many other worthwhile activities. Among these were the Holiday Party, at which Bacon students met Housemaster Swan, Mr. Mechem, and Mr. Gradoneg a performance by the fabulous Navy Band: and a decision rendered by the renowned NPITSP Committee. This group, try as it did to find traffic problems similar to those enjoyed by other houses, strongly supported Non- Participation In Traffic Squad Programs. With radical thinking like this, the other houses should watch Bacon House carefully. Ty?F- I' Imp' V 5 'Xi K 4. l 4 E.-v FIRST ROXY: Margie Sullivan. Ken? Kopans. BEALS CIVICS COMMITTEE FIRST ROW: Barbara Slotnik, Alva Gilvan, Bonnie Schlosberg, Terry Mac- Laughlin, John Bilezikian. SECOND ROW: Judy Davidson, Toby Winston, Judy Gilbern, Charlotte Clifton, David Devore, Jeff McCone, Mr. Kesselheim. Housemaster Kesselheim Rising high above the Walnut Street plain, Kessel- heim's castle is an imposing structure of turrets and gables and delicate, wrought iron balconies. Guarded day and night by the little men in the orange arm-bands, the castle is practically impenetrable - unless you know the pass word. The key to the castle is the trite little word spirit, not rah-rah spirit, but quiet enthusiarn - the kind of spirit that creates and is created by such projects as The Suspension of Nuclear Armament? , the Ground Improvement Committee CG.I.C.D, and The Beals House Story. The castle is constructed of several basic building blocks. The corner stone is Mr. A. Donn Kesselheim - a busy, serious administrator with some time and a smile for everyone. The foundation stones are of the Mrs. Boucher variety - warm, efficient, and full of answers. The active House Council is another important block in the castle. Led by Hiram Gordon. the Council has been a veritable debating society and greenhouse for brand new ideas. The Civics Committee. under John Bilizekian. and the Assembly Committee. under Paula Salow, pile up to make the walls reach the sky. The castle is completed by ten students and faculty of the house. for everybody from Demosthenes' hangout in 1-150 to Miss Ryans headquarters in 1320 is an essential building blmk of Beals House.
