BERG dedication In 1920, Mr. B. C. Berg was hired as Newton's high school principal. At the end of his second year as principal, the school board named him superin- tendent of the Newton schools. The people of Newton have never regretted the decision made by that board of education in 1922. For, during the thirty- seven years that Mr. Berg has headed Newton's educational program, his accomplishments have indeed been many. He has been a pioneer leader in the fields of ability grouping, special education, office practice, vocational homemaking, music and art emphasis, elementary science, and many more. He has taken a personal interest in every phase of the vast school program and, because of his ability to intuitively grasp and foresee school problems, and his love for his work, he has been successful in his planning. During Mr. Berg's administration, also the building program has grown and become a reality in many respects. The building of the new senior high school seven years ago was the first goal attained in the new program, which now amounts to over 32,000,000 The students of Newton Community High School will never be able to adequately repay Mr. Berg for his invaluable leadership and sincere friend- ship during his thirty-seven years as superintendent. But they will ever be grateful. To you then, Mr. Berg, in deepest appreciation, we dedicate the l959 Newtonia. , Wy ffm f Zffffmff Q52fLw'?5'f21f ff? if . I 221 M . Having been awarded a position on the Second All C-I-C Team this winter, he was voted the most valuable player by his teammates.
