Text from Pages 1 - 264 of the 1968 volume:

When you are old and grey and full of sleep, And nodding by the fire, take dovvn this book And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep WB. Yeates SSS Ria 'i ilgx 63. iff lt is yourself you seek In a long rage, Scanning through light and darkness Nlirrors, the page, Where should reflected be Those eyes and that thick hair, That passionate look, that laughter. You should appear Within the book, or doubled, Freed, in the silvered glass, Into all other bodies Yourself should pass. The glass does not dissolve, Like walls the mirrors stand, The printed page gives back Words by another hand. L 4. - I ' six ,, ' 3 f 'Af .sf EW' Keyed to Responsibility Sacred Heart Girls Win New Authority Student authority and student responsibility are being re- garded a-s highly interdependent by the students at Newton Col- lege of the Sacred Heart. The student Senate at the liberal arts college for women recently adopted a proposal on student authority and respon- sibility at 'a meedng attended by two-thirds of the 800 under- graduates and by several mem- bers of the faculty. The proposail was based on suggestions agreed upon at the National Student Association Conference in Maryland last August. Included are demands for a voice in academic affairs. authority over student organiza- tions. financial independence for student organizations, parr- ticipation in setting up dormi- tory regulations and social regu- lations, and jurisdiction over specific disciplinary matters. THE COLLEGES administra- tion, after discussing the propos- als with hhe Senate, voted to ac- cept them. Future Senate resolutions will be reviewed and evaluated by the administration. However, the initial agreement provides that in areas of student competence a three-fourtlis majority vote of the student Senate can override the veto of the administration. Jane A. Hanify, a senior from Belmont who is president of the Student Government, said "an atmosphere in which students dan assume meaningful respon- sibility, and the authority com- mensurate with that responsibil- ity, is vital to t.he development of a mature and effective stud- ent government. "We believe that student pow- er should be interpreted as stud- ent responsiiaility, and can be realized througrh a rational dia- logue between students and ad- ministrators," she said.
