CHRISTMAS OF 1968 by Alan S. Crandall Thomas E. Luckett John A. Hickey Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the ship Each man has his thoughts concerning this trip. Every man on board is thinking of past times, When they were home with their loved ones, and things were just fine But they realize that this Christmas Day Will be spent many thousands of miles away. Though each man is here through no wish of his own, He is here serving his country, defending his home . . Even though he,s from a land where peace is secure. He is here helping others whose future isn,t too sure. In a combat zone where war is quite near, Is not a very pleasant way to end up the year. . But through our efforts and the help of God up above We will someday again be with those we love. And we will remember the Christmas of ,68. When we fought against injustice, greed, and hate. . To make the world free, here and everywhere. . For freedom was meant for all men to share. This thought is especially true at this time of year, When everyoneis heart should be filled with good cheer But maybe someday the world will be free from sorrow and grief When men finally learn to live together. . . in peace. .
