SUPPLY DEPARTME 152 an n, .,, 1 I LT V. EDDIE GONZALES SUPPLY OFFICER Xl Supply Department performs several essential and diverse tasks for the crew and embarked Ma- rines. From selling icecream to get- ting critical parts for Engineering, from cutting hair to serving pizza, from cleaning laundry to cleaning the dishes, Supply Department makes shipboard life nor only bear- able, but sometimes enjoyable. Comprised of five divisions, Supply Department has just over twenty rated personnel plus about twenty temporary workers provid- ed by the other departments and Marines to work on the Mess Deck. Mess Specialists, Store Keepers, Disbursing Clerks, and Ship's Ser- vicemen all work as a team to keep the ship and the crew ready for any mission. The Cook's work is never done. MS's are up at three to make the donuts and bread. Then they cook breakfast. Wlhile the Mess Cooks clean after breakfast, the MS's prepare for lunch. After lunch, clean again, then make and serve dinner. Then clean again and after a brief rest it's time to cook the midnight rations, midrats, for the 2330 serving. After cleaning up rnidrats. . . well, it's time to make the donuts again. Every day the MS's cooked over 1500 meals. That adds up to over 315,000 meals. Even with all the meals the Cooks still found time for training, supporting ship's par- ties, Saturday pizza nights, and all those working parties. Marines were a big help with the numerous working parties. V MSCQSWJ J.
