O On cz Hgh Note The Choral Department sings their way to a year of entertaining This was a year of perfor- mance and competition for the students in the Choral Department. The group presented three major con- certs, performed a full-scale musical and competed in the district, area and state levels. In October the Women's Choir, A Cappella, and the Vocal Ensemble began the year with a fall concert. This show featured a patriotic medley with solos by senior officers. This medley was lat- er peiformed at the Horatio Alger Assembly. Also in the and accomplishments fall, students competed for the All-District and All-Area Choirs. Those selected for All-Region were: Matt Apple, Candy Bailey, Colleen Big- gard, Billy Bradford, Wendy Hackworth, Alan Little, and Erika Lundy. As usual the Christmas Holiday show was the high- light of the year. Playing to a standing-room-only crowd, A GM For You featured special appearances by a faculty en- semble and officers from 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987. In February, the Choral Department turned Newman Smith into a tap dancing Broadway Avenue. Members of the A Cappella Choir presented the musical 42nd Street. The show, known for its fast costume changes and lively dance routines, re- quired that the entire choir learn tap dancing. Crowds re- sponded each night with ap- plause and well-earned stand- ing ovations. The year was topped off with U.I.L. Solo and Ensem- ble Contest and also the Spring Review. This show used the theme 1987-88 Choir: A Show Stopper and featured a salute to George Gershwin, a special senior farewell, and the traditional '6One Voice Closing. For the Vocal Ensemble, this was a year in which the group presented over six shows. There were conve tions held at the Harvey H tel, DFW Hilton, and tl Crescent and performanc at the West End Mark Place, and radio shows fro the Adolphus Hotel, Valli View Mall, and Loew Anatole. They blame their big brothers and sisters for things they did and then tell mommy that so-and-so hit me back. Whether the truth or not, big brother or sister always gets in trouble, On the other hand, you could be the younger child who gets more privileges and seems to get away with murder. Sometimes problems can arise: competition, favoritism, and sibling rivalry. As several students testify, living with brothers and sisters offers a variety of problems... and advantages.
